It all starts with a simple sketch on a sheet of wood (often Birch or Maple). Then the sheet of wood is drilled to drop a saw blade into each section. After being cut, the wood is then sanded and stained. Next the wood is bonded to glass and each piece of stained glass is hand cut and added to the image with surgical tweezers (yes, the glass really is that small). The glass is then grouted and mounted to the framework. Finally, the image is interior lit to allow light to penetrate the image.
Each large image takes about a month to a month and a half to complete. The selection of glass is intentionally chosen to complement the light both in front and behind the image. The process is patent protected and unique to me as a glass artist.
